ࡱ> $&#q  bjbjt+t+ &AA] P$ ;;^^^^:^n^ 0.gH APPLICATION FOR THE IRELAND MEDAL RLSS Ireland The Republic of Ireland Branch in association with The Irish Lifesaving Foundation The Ireland Medal The Ireland Medal was introduced in 2004 to mark the centenary of Royal Life Saving Society activity in The Republic of Ireland. A specially commissioned gold medallion will be awarded annually to an Irish citizen or person of Irish descent for the most outstanding aquatic rescue or rescue attempt anywhere in the world within the preceding two calendar years. Nominations should be made to RLSS Ireland or The Irish Lifesaving Foundation by national or regional branches of internally recognized lifesaving or rescue organizations. In developing nations a valid nomination may be made by an official RLSS representative through the RLSS Commonwealth Office. Notes: A copy of The Ireland Medal Nomination Form should be completed by the nominating body and sent to RLSS Ireland, 11 Iveragh Close, Lismore Lawn, Waterford City, The Republic of Ireland, with supporting documentation. Nominations for the 2006 medal will close on 31st December 2005. Receipt of a prior local award for the rescue attempt will strengthen a nomination. For the purposes of this award Irish descent means that one of the candidate's parents or grandparents was born in the Republic or Ireland or Northern Ireland. In years when no nomination of sufficient merit is received the medal may be awarded to a body deemed (through the collective actions of its members over a substantial period) to have made a significant contribution to water safety/rescue.
